Soil
Preparation
Top quality soil preparation is essential in Colorado.
We prepare the existing soil by tilling and adding amendments. The goal
is to recreate, as best as possible, natural soil, which is a living ecosystem.
Most Colorado soils are very low in organic matter, high in pH, and are
often made of heavy clay that has been compacted. Other soils are quite
sandy. Adding, literally, tons of organics is the single most important
thing to do.

Here's why our soil preparation is superior:
- We add tons of organics - at least 5 cubic yards per 1,000 square feet.
- We till so deeply so we can add more organics. Compost and organics provide
tilth, beneficial to microorganisms, and water holding capacity. The result
is stronger roots and plants. This will permanently improve the soil quality.
- We add Ecolite. This is a highly porous gravel-like material made by heating
shale to over 2,000 degrees. It has enormous surface areas of micro pores,
which provide spaces for oxygen, water, nutrients, and microbes. Ecolite
permanently improves the soil.
- We also add other nutrients as necessary, such as hydropolymers, which
are used to retain moisture in the soil, and Biosol, an organic slow-release
fertilizer. All nutrients are completely harmless to humans and pets.
- Quality soil preparation can reduce the water needs of turf and plants
by up to 30%.
